Holy crap, I've been busy.

First of all, and certainly the most exciting, is the opening of
The Hero House, my BF's new comic book store. He's dreamed of opening another one (he owned one when he lived in Ohio several years ago), and he and his partner found the right location at the right time and went for it. They've worked super hard getting everything ready, and the store looks fabulous. It's going to be a huge amount of work for him, because he's keeping his full-time job as well as working several days a week at Hero House. I don't see him as often, but I know it's for a good cause. The eventual goal is that the store is successful enough to support us full time. Cross your fingers for us, and if you're ever in Indianapolis, visit the store!

Things got pretty busy for me at work too. My boss had her baby at the end of May, and he's a giant butterball of a cutie-pie. We are all adjusting to the extra person and the extra workload. My 45-year-old back needs a little strengthening; toting around a 19 lb. baby all the time isn't as easy as it used to be. The big brother, after some initial reservations, has embraced his role as protector of his little brother. My boss returns to work soon, so we'll be switching to bottle feeding soon. I'm sure he'll love that.
I also enjoyed a short trip to Savannah last week. It was a fun break in a beautiful city. I could never live there, though, because my hair would look like a Brillo pad all the time. The heat and humidity were OPPRESSIVE. I had dinner at Paula Deen's restaurant The Lady and Sons, and it was just okay. Waiting in line for 3 hours to eat is not the best way to spend an afternoon, that's for sure. Some of the locals said that Paul and her sons don't spend much time at the restaurant any more.

I can certainly see evidence of that. The gooey butter cake, however, was excellent! I also took a fun riverboat ride which gave us a welcome break from the heat. The scenery was gorgeous and the breezes off the water were heavenly.

My sister and family came from Ohio for our annual Indiana State Fair visit, where the boys try their darndest to eat everything that's available on a stick. This year's most raved-about food was chocolate-covered bacon. I passed, because it JUST LOOKED NASTY. I'll stick with roasted sweet corn, thank you very much. We're all hittin' the Dairy Barn in this pic--with ice cream and grilled cheese for a dollar, it's the best bargain on the midway!
I'm ready for fall, and for things to cool off and slow down a bit. The cool part, I'm pretty sure I'll get. As for slower...probably not anytime soon.
